Gift Basket for an Outdoorsman

My little guy turned eight yesterday and he’s already an avid outdoorsman {or outdoorsboy … wink}.  He loves nothing more than being outside, climbing tall trees, shooting his BB gun, fishing, and watching nature.  My husband suggested that some fun outdoor-encouraging items might make a great birthday gift idea for him and I thought I’d share it here: a gift basket for an outdoorsman. {This post contains affiliate links.}

I wanted to paint a basket or can in camouflage but since we came up with this idea a little late, I just ran out of time.  Instead, I used a basket that we already had, added a little Duck Dynasty ribbon, and filled it with some fun items.

Knowing that Luke already owns a BB gun and a slingshot and has a pond a block away, his gift basket is full of items that he’ll use regularly.

details of gift basket

We filled his basket with the following things:

a package of paper targets

a net for catching tadpoles, frogs, or small fish at the pond

a pair of binoculars

a camouflage cap

catfish bait {our pond is full of catfish}

a vintage canteen

protective eye gear

a LED light that fits on the brim of a cap and

a duck whistle {for playing with the ducks at our pond}.

There are so many fun items that you could add to a basket.  Wander the aisles of your outdoor store for ideas and consider these suggestions:

a slingshot

a BB gun

ammunition for a BB gun or slingshot

fishing bait or hooks

protective ear gear

camouflage apparel or

anything pertaining to your outdoorsman’s favorite outdoor activity.

What would you put in a gift basket for an outdoorsman?  I’d love to hear your favorite ideas.

    What a great idea, Randi! I bet Luke loved every bit of it.
