Yesterday I shared Lila’s DIY birthday gift and today I thought I’d share Luke’s.
Over the last couple of months, Luke has done some building and tool experimentation with Poppa and he’s loved it. {What boy wouldn’t love getting their hands on a power drill?} Their latest project was a mitered wood frame that turned out so great … I want to paint it and hang it in the house.
Since Luke’s enjoying building so much, I thought it would be fun to give him his very own tool box.
I found a cute tool box {just the right size for a little guy to lug around} …
… and used bright yellow vinyl to add his name.
The top of the tool box has small sections that I filled with nails, screws, and bolts.
I only wanted to add things that Luke will be able to use now. In the top section of the box, I put a builder’s crayon, a multi-tip screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, a tape measure, and a piece of sandpaper.
The bottom of the box holds his hammer and some scraps of wood.
The saw doesn’t fit in the box …
… but there’s room for his hand drill. My brother had one as a young kid and he loved it. I knew Luke would think it was pretty awesome too. Poppa went through his garage and found a few old drill bits for Luke to add to his box.
I thought Luke would enjoy his tool box but I had no idea he’d love it as much as he does. He spent an hour building the first day and three hours after school yesterday, drilling and hammering to build an airplane. He’s banged his fingers up with the hammer and drilled into his leg but he couldn’t be happier.

Cute little stinker, huh? I hope this will be the start of a lifelong hobby for my little guy and a fun way to pass his time.
Great gift! I love what you put into the tool box. What is the thing that looks like the end of a fishing rod? I’ve never seen one before.
What a special gift! I hope to do this for my boys when they get a little older!!!
