Flavored Candy Spoons {for Hot Cocoa}

Texas isn’t known for cold winters but when you’re used to steaming hot days, any drop in the temperature makes it feel like hot cocoa season.  And any time we have hot cocoa, I love to add a fun little touch that takes a regular cup of cocoa up a notch.  These flavored candy spoons for hot cocoa are easy to make and they melt right into a cup of hot chocolate, adding a flavorful customized twist!

To make flavored candy spoons, you’ll need a spoon shaped candy mold {affiliate link}, candy melts in any flavor or color, and flavored syrup.

I tried two different methods to make these candy spoons, both recommended on the candy mold packaging.

For the first batch, I broke candy melts in half and placed them in the mold {as seen below} then microwaved the mold in thirty second increments till the candy was melted.  I poured a bit of syrup into each mold, used a knife to mix it up, tapped the mold to get the air out, and chilled the mold until the candy spoons were hard.  This worked but it was a bit more tedious than it needed to be.

For the second batch, I melted candy melts in a container in the microwave, divided the melted mixture into two separate piping bags {cheap sandwich bags work perfectly}, added about a tablespoon of syrup into each, and squeezed it up until it was well mixed.  Once mixed, I trimmed a small corner off each bag and piped the mixture into the mold, tapped out the air, and let it chill until the spoons were hard.  This method seemed simpler overall.

Once the spoons are hardened, pop them carefully out of the mold.  This step is tricky and I broke a couple trying to get them out.  The good news is you can use a dab of candy melt to stick them back together and no one will be any wiser.

Let the kids choose their favorite flavor to stir their cocoa.  The spoon will melt as you stir the hot drink and it’ll add a hint of flavor, making the perfect cup of creamy cocoa.
