First Birthday Time Capsules

Today I’m sharing a project from my pre-blogging days.  It’s one of those projects that I thought was fun at the time but that I’ve come to love as the years have passed.

When my twins, Luke and Lila, turned one I made a simple first birthday time capsule for them.  I thought it would be fun to look back in time as the years have passed by.  And it is.  Even looking through it today brought back such a flood of emotions.  I’m wishing I had made one for Tate when she turned one.

I kept the whole thing really simple, starting with plain white photo boxes found at any craft store.

I added simple computer-printed labels mounted on scrapbook paper {I used their birthday party colors}.

Inside the boxes are:

the hats and bibs they wore at their first birthday party {they were designed with a velcro seam so they could be saved as a keepsake} …
First birthday time capsules
First birthday time capsules
… small voice recorders that captured those little voices and giggles …
First birthday time capsules
… notes from friends and family and fun keepsakes like coins from the year they were born {the notes are especially wonderful to have since some of the older relatives are no longer with us} …
First birthday time capsules
… the stamp I used on their birthday invitations …
First birthday time capsules
… tracings of those little one year old hands …
First birthday time capsules
… their birth announcement …
First birthday time capsules
… foot prints …

… and photos of the birthday celebration.

I had actually forgotten all the fun things I had included and I loved looking back at them, especially those little hands and feet.  And hearing those baby voices turned me to mush.

I hope this post will inspire you to save some of your baby moments as well!

Oh I love the idea of the voices! That would be so cute! Our kids were little before video cameras and digital photos were around much, so lots of that is lost 🙂

What a wonderful idea! Love those little hats, too — so adorable! I would love it if you would consider linking to Busy Monday at A Pinch of Joy, a Sunday through Thursday link party for ideas that make life easier, better and more fun!

This is such a cute idea, to help you remember all those important milestone moments, like their first haircut.

I love your family photos and ideas. Thanks for sharing.
