Since we moved into this house, my system for storing fabric has been dismal: many large Rubbermaid boxes stacked in the garage. They used to be sorted by color but over time {and with my laziness}, the colors have become mixed and have spilled over and become a general nightmare.
Tate recently moved out of her pack ‘n’ play in our closet {she comes from a long line of closet sleepers} into her real room with her sister, freeing up a large space in our already large closet. I decided it was the perfect spot for a small fabric-holding shelf.
After much searching, I found an appropriately sized {and appropriately priced} shelf at Wal-Mart and began the process of transitioning the fabric. I spent hours sorting {I parted with many, many yards of fabric that I realized I’m never going to use … some went to a friend and lots went to Goodwill}, refolding, and piling {by color} on the shelves. I will admit that I still have one Rubbermaid containing big-yardage pieces of fabric but my plan is to move them to the shelves once I use some of the existing fabric {which I plan to do: one of my creative goals for 2011 is to complete a monthly sewing project}.
Doesn’t it look pretty? I’m so thrilled with my new little system – I can see what I have and can find fabric for projects so quickly. Cross that one off the list.
I’ve started truncating my posts … please pop over to my blog to read the rest!
I love perfectly folded fabric, shirts, sweaters, towels, whatever on shelves. It makes me smile.
Can’t wait to see what you do with that fabric.
That is very pretty and has given me an idea for my craft room.
I just have to say that I can not believe you called yourself “lazy”!!! You are way too Type ‘A’ (that’s my nice way of saying OCD) to be lazy. 🙂 Love you!
You are giving me such inspiration for my room. thank you
Too bad I couldn’t take some of the fabric “off” your hands. Very nice.
We have only one closet sleeper 🙂
(1) Your space looks great. I’m just about to post some pictures of my great reorganization and the pictures of the folded fabrics are my favorites.
(2) I cannot believe you donated bags of fabric without letting me pick through it first. Please do not ever do that again. 🙂
I need to re-organize my fabric. That looks great.
