Duct Tape Gift Wrap

I have a friend who gives beautifully wrapped packages, the kind where the outside of the gift is as fun as the inside.  I love pretty gift wrap but I’m often totally lazy and end up throwing a gift in a bag.  Can you relate?  This week Tate was invited to a birthday party and I was inspired to do something cute with the outside of the gift.  I love the way this duct tape gift wrap turned out and had to share it with you.

I first wrapped the gift box in white wrapping paper.  Want a little trick?  Buy cheap wrapping paper and use the plain white inside instead of the outer print.  Just make sure the wrapping paper doesn’t have marking lines on it {most cheap wrapping paper doesn’t}.

To add the duct tape embellishment, I crossed duct tape over the package in two directions, similar to what you would do with ribbon.  {I love this neon zig zag/chevron print!}

To make the petals of the flower, I tore pieces of duct tape and folded them into thirds.

I made five pieces like that and used a little hot glue to attach them together in a flower shape and hold them in place on top of the gift.

I folded a piece of duct tape onto itself so there were no more sticky sides and then cut a circle with a large hole punch for the center of the flower.  I hot glued it in place on top of the flower.

The final touch was a little monogram.  I traced one of Tate’s little alphabet letters onto a sheet of duct tape, cut it out, and stuck it on the package.

The present looked so cute!  This duct tape gift wrap might replace my toss-in-a-gift-bag approach to wrapping {wink}!

    What a great idea to wrap gifts! I am one of the ones who throws it in a bag, how boring. I need to start getting more creative like this!!

    This is so great! I have to mail a gift today and wanted to use Hello Kitty Duct tape to dress it up without using the entire roll. This is perfect 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing!
