When I was designing the paper and upcycled coaster gift tags I shared recently, I came across a vintage truck and tree design in Cricut Design Space and my mind just started snowballing with ideas. Does that happen to you too? I knew this little truck would make the cutest snow globe gift tag to top presents this holiday season. And you know what? I was right {wink}! It’s adorable!
I designed all the elements of this gift tag project in Cricut Design Space so you can click on that link to customize the project and make your own. If you want, add some text to the bottom red area and use pens to create it. I left the tag really basic so it can be personalized any way you want.
This project can be cut with either a Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2. The pieces are all cut from cardstock with the exception of the blue snow globe piece. You’ll need to use some type of plastic for that in order to create the sheer cover over the snow globe. You can use a piece cut from a cellophane gift bag, a piece cut from a page protector or clear plastic folder, or anything else that’s thin but will hold its shape.
Put the truck and tree together first. I found it easiest to just use a glue stick for this entire project. You can see the purple glue in the picture below but it dries clear and makes it easy to maneuver the pieces, if needed, without having a lot of really wet glue.
Place the detailed truck piece over top of the other truck piece then layer the tree pieces together on the brown tree base. Place the tree in the bed of the truck and glue both pieces onto the white snow globe background.
Next, adhere the clear plastic piece on top but only glue it along the bottom. Let it dry completely because when you add the snowflakes, you don’t want them getting caught in the glue or sinking down into the card.
While that piece is drying, glue the red pieces to the bottom of the globe, on top of the plastic.
Once everything is dry, pull the plastic back and add the circle snowflakes, then glue around the outside perimeter of the plastic globe, attaching it to the white background.
Be sure to only adhere the plastic to the perimeter so the snowflakes can move around like they would in a real snow globe.
Let the gift tag dry completely …
… and then test it out by giving it a shake. The snowflakes should move around within the tag.
In case you’re considering cutting real snowflakes instead of circles, let me save you a little time. I experimented with real snowflake shapes but the snowflakes were so intricate and tiny that they were difficult to cut and kept catching on the truck once they were in the snow globe. Circles worked a whole lot better.
Add the tag to the top of a gift …
… and you have a super cute gift to give this holiday season!
