Do you have a dog?  Isn’t it crazy the way they so quickly become part of the family and bring so much joy and happiness to the home?  We have a furry little bichon and we all just adore her.  She’s a hot mess and loves to venture out the front door a bit too often, so I made a quick and easy DIY personalized dog collar so everyone will know where she belongs even if she manages to escape the house for a little neighborhood jaunt!

Our pup loves us but she also loves to go for a little run down the street to visit all her favorite neighbors and dog friends.  I don’t mind her going for a quick visit next door, but I worry that she’ll get out the front door without being noticed {in our big family that front door opens and closes a million times a day!} and will get lost.  I’ve been using SmartBones Chicken Classic Bone Chews to reward her for staying in the house even when the front door is open, but her new personalized collar is giving me some added assurance that she’ll be returned to where she belongs.

SmartBones dog treats

To make this collar, I stopped in at PetSmart for a cute collar that I could embellish and also bought a package of SmartBones Classic Chicken Bone Chews.

My pup loves these rawhide-free chewy treats and I love that SmartBones, made with healthy and wholesome ingredients, are a healthier way to treat my dog.  My puppy is satisfied, and I feel good about the nutrition she’s getting.  Good for them.  Good for you.  Has your dog tried SmartBones?  Click on the shoppable image below to try a package {or two}!

Molly is loving her chewy treats and is responding well to my new training …

… but I still wanted to make a collar with her name and phone number so I can be sure she’ll be brought home if she goes visiting or slips away from her leash when the kids are walking her.  To make the personalized dog collar, I used a collar made with smooth fabric and some iron on heat transfer from my craft stash.

I used my cutting machine to cut out our dog’s name and my cell phone number …

… then adhered it to the collar.

Now anyone who doesn’t recognize Molly can look at her collar and call us to let us know where she is.

This simple craft will save me a lot of worry over that little mutt.

I’m loving Molly’s colorful new collar but she’s all about those treats and has been begging me constantly for more.  She’s even been stashing them around the house so she can be sure to have a treat when we’re not around!

Oh my goodness she is such a darling little puppy! Hopefully, the training with treats goes well so you don’t have to chase her down the block!
