DIY Fisherman Costume

I can’t let Halloween pass without sharing one more super simple, last minute DIY costume: a fisherman costume complete with a cardboard charter boat!  My little guy is an avid fisherman and when we dressed our dog up as a shark earlier this month, he decided he’d love to pair up with Molly as a shark fisherman!

DIY fisherman costume

Somehow Halloween really snuck up on me this year so when I tell you that this can be done at the last minute, I mean it.  This poor costume got thrown together yesterday.  It’s far from perfect but my little redhead loves it and that’s what matters, right?  We took one of his hobbies and turned it into a fun costume that he’ll remember!

To make this fisherman costume, I cut the top and bottom flaps from a large cardboard box, shaped it {somewhat} into a boat shape, used duct tape to hold it in that shape, and spray painted it brown.  I added signs to the side of the boat, draped a fishing net across the back, and glued a fishing bob onto the front.  Ribbon straps glued to the inside of the boat criss cross over Luke and hold the boat in place.

Luke added a fishing vest and a fishing hat {or a cowboy hat, but whatever} …

… and we glued a giant cardboard hook {spray painted silver} onto the dog’s leash which is doubling as a fishing rod.

Super easy, right?  I had all of the supplies at home and just had to put everything together.  Other fun details could easily be added but this is how my little one will be looking on Halloween!
