Decorating Tips from a Football Game

Verizon provided me with tickets to the tailgate party and the game and provided amazing wireless service for me and all their other customers!  All thoughts and opinions are my own. #GoVerizon

I had the pleasure of watching the Cowboys slaughter the Colts last weekend, landing us a spot in the playoffs.  And while I’m not generally a huge sports fan {unless my kiddos are playing}, I realized I love the action of a live game: the wild crowd, the jumbotron, the tailgating, and the high fives … and the decorating tips that can be gleaned from a football game.  Let’s have a little fun while I tell you what I learned.

decorating tips from a football game

1.  Floor coverings are critical.

Like the turf that covers the football stadium, the right floor covering is an important factor in your home.  Whether you choose carpet, hardwood floors, or ceramic tile, pick something that meets the needs of your family and the space.

2.  Use lighting to create ambiance.

Fill a room with lamps, add dimmer switches to overhead lighting, light candles, and make the most of the natural lighting in every room.

3.  Industrial accents are a fun touch.

While the industrial look might not be your thing, small industrial touches can add a really fun accent to a home.  Hold a plant in a galvanized bucket or add large metal pulls to a cabinet.

4.  Use bright accent colors in your decor.

Choose a few main colors for your home then add some bright pops of color: a few patterned pillows on the couch, a bright throw rug, or a contrasting tray on the coffee table are all fun ways to add some flash.

5.  Create a focal point in the room.

Center chairs around a coffee table, create a cozy space in front of the fireplace, or display family photos on a large gallery wall.  A focal point is not only pleasing to the eye but it can also be a great conversation starter.

6.  Use seating to create an inviting atmosphere.

Like the thousands of seats turned on a sporting event, the seating in a room should draw people in.  Set up clusters of chairs or buy a large sectional with enough seating for a crowd.

7.  Typography never goes out of style.

Use typography to add character and meaning to your decor.  Have you got five people in your family?  Attach a large number five to a wall.  Use paint or vinyl to post a favorite quote or verse or grab a favorite printable off the web and frame it for a wall.

My favorite teams are the Cowboys and the Patriots, and there is a good chance they will be playing each other in February.

My favorite pro team is the Dallas Cowboys. I also happen to live less than 5 minutes from AT&T stadium. My favorite college team is the Arkansas Razorbacks, though!
