Color Coded Lego Organization

This idea for color coded lego organization is part of a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Rubbermaid® . The opinions and text are all mine.

In my house, January is the month to get clean and get organized!  This week I tackled Luke’s lego collection and gave him a color coded lego organization system that he loves!

While I love the creativity that comes with lego, I hate finding small pieces everywhere.  Until now, Luke’s lego pieces have been stored in an overflowing container that sits under his Lego table and it’s far from ideal.  Pieces constantly fall out, the lid won’t stay on, and it’s difficult to see what pieces are available for building.  A new system was a must!

I bought eight X-Small Rubbermaid® All Access™ storage containers at Home Depot.  The X-Small size was just perfect for this project.

This month, Home Depot is hosting their Winter Storage Event and has a prominent display in the front of the store with piles of Rubbermaid®  choices, making it easy to find exactly what you need for your project.

Rubbermaid All Access containers

I really love the All Access™ organization line.  The containers open with a lid on top but also open from the front with a front access door.  This makes them perfect for stacking because you don’t have to unstack them in order to access the items inside.  Genius, right?

I opted to use color coding for this project because it’s a great way to help kids get organized … even young children can sort items by color.  I used adhesive vinyl {cut on my Silhouette} to add color-coded text labels to each container.

When I had them all labeled, I stacked them against a wall in Luke’s room.

The front access doors made it super easy to start organizing all the Lego pieces by color.

I got the sorting process started and then left the rest up to Luke, a task my surprisingly type A boy is loving!

Now, instead of a jumbled mess of lego in the room, Rubbermaid® All Access™ storage containers have turned chaos into organization.  And not just one-time organization but organization that can be easily maintained by Luke.  It’s a win-win!
