Out of my five kids, two are in college which means summers are spent gathering everything they need for another year away from home. It doesn’t get any easier sending them off each year, but we’ve become more efficient at figuring out what they really need for another successful year of college. This year, I made my daughter a college survival kit {and included a free printable that you can use, too!} with a few key items to help her settle into her house and help her feel at home … even though she’s away from us.
When my oldest went off to college his first year, he had a list of things he wanted in addition to the list supplied by the college. One of the key things on his list was a Brita® Water Pitcher. He was used to drinking filtered water at home and wanted that to continue in his dorm {the Brita fit easily into his small dorm room refrigerator}.
This year, my daughter will be living in a house with friends. The fridge doesn’t have a filtration system, so I stopped in at Walmart and bought a Brita® Stream Filter As You Pour Water Pitcher to add to her college survival kit.
The Brita filter-as-you-pour technology makes it perfect for college students on the go. You can fill the entire pitcher …
… and immediately pour a great-tasting glass of filtered water. There’s no waiting for water to filter!
With a smooth, steady pour, the Brita Stream also makes it easy to fill reusable water bottles. One Brita Stream filter can replace up to 300 16.9 ounce bottles of water, so you can enjoy filtered water at a fraction of the price and without all the waste.
And you can use filtered water anywhere you would use regular tap water: in cooking, infant formula, coffee, ice cubes, or for pets. The ease of use makes Brita a no-brainer for the college kid … and I love that it’s available in fun colors like aqua blue!
I also added a few other fun items to the college survival kit {all found at Walmart, one of my favorite places for one-stop shopping}: a velvety throw to add a cozy factor to late night studying, a candle to help her relax during stressful exam weeks, a reusable glass water bottle, earplugs to block out the inevitable noise from roomies, some fun and colorful pens, and a cute notebook.
I packaged it all up in a basket that can be used to hold items in her room {organization is key in small space living} …
… and added a cute tag to the front. If you’re planning on making a college survival kit, you can click on this college survival kit printable to add it to your own basket.
While I’m not looking forward to saying goodbye to my daughter and sending her off to college again, I am excited about surprising her with this fun gift … and I know it’ll make her year at college a bit easier!
Are you sending a child to college this year? Be sure to buy a Brita for their college living!
Only a few years left and my daughter will be off to college. Thanks for sharing at the inspiration spotlight party @DearCreatives pinned and sharing.
I love the college survival kit idea! Both of my kids have graduated from college, but I wish I had done this! I love the Brita filter. Nice that there is waiting for it to filter. I’ll have to check that out. Thanks so much for sharing at Thursday Favorite Things!
