Children at Weddings :: A Lounge for Kids

I just got back from a two-week family vacation in Canada and while I was there I teamed up with Calgary wedding photographer {and one of my favorite people ever}, Tara Whittaker, for a fun and festive kids’ lounge photo shoot.  These days, you’ll often find children at weddings and providing a lounge for the kids {along with a babysitter or two, of course} is a great way to keep them entertained.  This wedding lounge is a colorful and classy spot featuring ice cream, pineapples {one of my favorite trends this summer}, and plenty of DIY projects {check out all the DIY details here}.

Since nothing entertains kids quite like ice cream we created a self-serve ice cream station with a black and white scalloped awning and a whimsical chalkboard background.

Colorful pinwheels paired with real leaves placed in pineapple vases added a whimsical touch to both the ice cream station and the table.

Scoops of ice cream served on a platter made it easy for little ones to eye all the tempting choices …

Since ice cream is always more fun when it’s covered in toppings, a variety of sweet treats were served in pineapple boats and labeled with patterned sails.

Bright linens, contrasting pineapple-stamped table runners, layered colorful plates, cheery tumblers, and more patterned pinwheels added vivid color and an instant festive feel to the table.

Kids love special drinks and even something as simple as fruit garnishes on glasses can make a place setting feel festive.

One of my favorite touches were the adorable pinecones turned into pineapples that were strung on ribbon over the tables.  Aren’t they fun?

Each place setting also included an activity bag filled with a few things to keep the kids entertained {just in case the toasts and speeches run long … wink}.  These pretty pineapple-themed cookies were among the goodies.

My kids had such a great time eating ice cream in our faux wedding lounge and were a little sad when it all came to an end.

Have you been to a wedding with activities for the kids?
