First Birthday Party Ideas

I loved the first birthday party I threw for my twins, Luke and Lila, but since that big event happened right before I started blogging, it wasn’t shared here.  I thought it might be fun to go back and share some of the photos and first birthday party ideas that we used to make it a simple but colorful and fun party for little ones.

I love color and rather than choosing a theme for their first birthday party, I chose bright pink, green, and blue as the colors and planned everything around that.

First Birthday Party Decoration Ideas

The table where the kiddos would sit for cake and ice cream was the focal point of the party.  I created a whimsical centerpiece {based on an idea I saw once in a magazine} by wrapping boxes then sticking bright lollipops into them.  It’s so simple but added an element of fun.

I wrapped the table in plain white paper and spelled out the name of the guests at each place setting, using colorful and mismatched stickers.

Each guest also had a brightly colored paper take-out box filled with crayons and stickers for decorating the paper table covering.

First Birthday Party Snacks

I set out little jars of baby snacks and wrapped the jars with scrapbook paper and paper labels that said “Luke and Lila are 1”.  These can just be printed out in a favorite font on a home computer.

The cake was very homemade looking {I’m definitely not a cake decorating expert} but it was gobbled right up so it must have been yummy. The candles were made from candy but Luke and Lila had the real thing to blow out when they had their cake.

First Birthday Time Capsules

I made time capsule boxes {click on that link for full details} for Luke and Lila and asked family members and guests to contribute items: coins and stamps from the year the twins were born, special messages, fun pictures, and any other paraphernalia they wanted to include.  The boxes will be opened in a few years.

First Birthday Party Activities

Party activities were limited since the babies were just turning one but we had a bubble machine outside and the highlight was a balloon drop {affiliate link}. Even the big kids loved it!  I simply placed balloons in tulle, hung it from our loft area, and released the edges when it was time but you can buy a balloon drop kit using the link above.

First Birthday Party Attire

A friend made special hats and bibs for Luke and Lila to wear instead of entire outfits and they were saved in the time capsule boxes when the party was over.

I loved this first birthday party. It was so simple but really fun and I always like looking back at the photos and remembering those little faces!
