An Ice Cream Social #IceCreamFloat

Our delicious ice cream float social was part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias®.

I love the ease of summer entertaining so during the summer months I try to schedule a number of themed playdates and gatherings for my kids.  This week we invited three other families over {a total of thirteen kids!} for a backyard ice cream social.  Light ice cream floats were the highlight!

Adding fun touches to a simple gathering always makes it feel more like a party so I used our soda colors to set up a little tablescape.  {You can see my party shopping trip here.}

I taped a balloon garland to the wall …

… and, in keeping with our summer theme, I laid a bright orange towel across the center of the table.

We used bright orange plastic cups for the ice cream floats …

… and I added some washi tape to wooden spoons {so the kids could scoop the last bit of ice cream from their cups}.

I set out a cup of straws …

… and a cup of bright-colored licorice to use as edible straws.

Ice cream floats really don’t need a lot of embellishing so in lieu of ice cream sprinkles, I just set out mini chocolate chips to sprinkle on top.

The kids had two choices of soda for our better-for-you floats: A&W TEN and Sunkist TEN.  Both sodas only contain ten calories per serving so the kids aren’t getting piles of calories in one drink {score!}.

We added scoops of delicious Dreyer’s Slow-Churned Classic Vanilla Ice Cream {with half the fat, it’s perfect for those summer ice cream recipes} to make classic A&W root beer floats and orange creamsicle floats.

An ice cream float party might be a new summer go-to for me.  I loved how simple it was to throw together and how much fun the kids had making their own ice cream floats.

The younger kids really loved it and went back for seconds {and maybe thirds}!

Even I couldn’t resist a creamy orange light ice cream float!

    Brilliant! I have done rootbeer floats but never thought about orange! I also love the idea of licorice for the straws. What fun!

    (And the towel idea – so smart!)
