I recently finished a project that might be one of my favorite projects ever: a Bible verse stenciled on wood pickets.
A few months ago, we were sitting in church listening to this Scripture {1 Peter 3:8-9} and it sounded like such a perfect passage for our family. I wanted it up on the wall where we all could see it regularly, think on it, and live it out.
I started with fence pickets, cut them in half, and secured them with nails onto two pieces of board. I wanted a very rustic look so I hammered the nails in without trying to line them up, I left edges ragged, I used boards with chips, and I only lightly sanded the whole thing.
Then I simply painted the letters using a “pouncing” technique {and a fifty cent paint sample found in the mistints}. I let them dry a bit, removed the contact paper, and lightly sanded across them to distress them just a little. A bit of glaze in certain spots and it was finished.
I used eye hooks and picture wire to hang it on our kitchen wall right behind our table.
I love it so much! I love the simple, rustic style, and I love hearing my kids read the verse. I pray that it will penetrate into their hearts.

I’ve started truncating my posts … please pop over to my blog to read the rest!
That is awesome! I love the look and the vs. I have been thinking on a vs for our family as well. I’ll be happy if I can get it onto paper and on the wall! Thanks for sharing!
