A Fishing Playdate Party

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a fishing playdate party snack that I created and today I’m going to share the whole fishing playdate party that we hosted for Luke and a few of his friends.  These little outdoorsman had such a great time casting their rods into our neighborhood pond and then snacking on a fun fish-themed ice cream sundae bar!  And the whole thing was super simple to throw together!

fishing playdate party

Summer is the perfect time to have friends over and host fun but simple themed playdates.  I love creating memories for my kiddos but I’m all about not going over the top.

Luke loves to fish and, since we have a pond a block from our house, a fishing playdate was one of the first things added to his summer bucket list.

We invited a handful of his little buddies, and with rods in hand, we walked over to the pond.

It was such a Huck Finn moment, watching the little guys fishing away.

The boys snacked on fish ‘n rods {a quick and easy snack they loved}, experimented with bait selections …

… and the final catch tally was this: two trees, one turtle, and two fish.

When the fishermen were fished out {except for Luke who could fish for days and be perfectly happy}, we walked back home to eat make-your-own fish-themed sundaes.

I covered the table with a white cloth layered with burlap and a fishing net and added a little color with lime green plates.

The plastic spoons got a little color as well with a quick dip in some craft paint {a really simple way to color coordinate your partyware}.

I kept the decorations to a minimum, adding a few fishing floats to the table, scattering starfish cookie “confetti” …

I skipped the need for a centerpiece by placing a piece of wood in the middle of the table and setting up a self-serve ice cream sundae bar that was a big hit with the boys!

Inspired by this school of fish themed ice cream bar, I copied a few ideas and came up with a few of my own.

The boys topped vanilla ice cream with green sugar {algae}, maraschino cherries {fish eggs}, gummy fish {catch of the day} …

… chocolate chips {rotten shark teeth}, gummy worms {fish bait}, graham crumbs {sand} …

… and chocolate sauce {squid ink}.

They had a great time making their candy-covered sundaes and spending time together …

Luke’s fishing playdate party was so much fun and so simple to host … the best kind of gathering!

I was here thinking you could adopt me. No, really! I would be great to my brothers and sisters and they’d have amazing fun when you organised MY themed birthday party… too ;).
My daughter’s birthday is on August so I always throw a beach inspired party – you know sand and shells in bowls etc etc and one year I made a dessert with the same “sand” you did and no kid touched it as they thought I’d put real sand on the cream ahahah
Thank you for sharing and keep enjoying a blessed Summer,
    Teresa

This is a fantastic party idea for the kids. It’s very creative and educational at the same time. You can teach the kids about fishing, lakes and nature and have fun.
