A Cross Framed on Burlap

Three of my dear friends are going on a mission trip to Kenya this summer.  They’re hosting a Bunko night with a raffle to raise support and I agreed to make something for the raffle.  If you’ve been around Dukes and Duchesses for a long time, you may remember the crosses in shadowboxes I made for another fundraiser.  This is similar with a bit of a twist.

I bought an oval frame {on clearance at Michael’s} and a {somewhat ugly} cross and spray painted the cross black.

I traced the opening of my frame onto foam board, cut the oval out with a craft knife, covered it with two layers of burlap, and pressed it tightly into the frame.

I glued the cross onto the center of the burlap {with lots of hot glue} …

… and that was it.  A simple project but I love the striking look of the black on burlap.

A huge version of this display would make a great focal point in a room, wouldn’t it?  I may have to add that to my project list.

It definitely looks striking! I love the combination of crisp spraypaint and the rugged burlap.
