Shaggy Edge Bib

Now that Tate is sitting up {kind of}, drooling {a lot}, and getting ready to try her first bite of baby cereal, I decided I should whip up a cute little shaggy edge bib for her to wear.  This project is really simple, even if you have very limited sewing experience, and a great way to use up any small pieces of fabric you might have left over in the stash.

How to Make an Easy Baby Bib

To make a bib like this, you’ll need a piece of fabric for the back and the front and a small piece of velcro as a closure, as well as coordinating thread.

I used a piece of floral flannel for the front and a piece of blue chenille for the back.  Both fabrics are very absorbent and will soak up liquids that get spilled or drooled.

To make the shape, I used a bib template that I found online.  If you google, you’ll find piles of different shapes and you can choose the one you like.

Print the template out on your home printer then lay the template on the fabric {with the front piece right side up and the back piece wrong side up} and cut the bib shape out.

Lay the pieces with wrong sides together and stitch around the outside of the bib, about half an inch from the edge.

Attach the velcro pieces to the back neck pieces, stitching them down right over the fabric, within the stitching line.

Then, using sharp fabric scissors, snip all around the outside and neck of the bib, cutting through both layers of fabric, almost up to the stitching line.

Keep the snips fairly close together.

As the bib is worn and washed, the snipped edge will fray {stopping at the stitched line}, giving the bib a shaggy, raggy edged appearance.

The shaggy edge has such a cute look to it when finished!

I bet she’s going to love the cereal. Regardless, she’s going to look cute eating it.

I think it’s hilarious that you would even think of this! And I laugh that you think this is the last baby of the Dukes’. The ones to come may not come from your womb but they are in your heart and God knows when they will arrive. Hmmm…. is there any truth to this?!

How cute! I hope the feeding went well. I love the idea of making bibs. I’ll be a Grandma for the first time over the Summer and I’d love to make quite a few things for this baby!
