Outdoor Summer Style

I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for my participation in the BHG Live Better Network.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #BHGLiveBetter

Summer is well on its way.  In just a few weeks, the kids will be out of school and we’ll be spending hours outside, much of it in the pool.  I wanted to resurface our pool this year {and choose new tile and new landscaping, of course} but that hasn’t yet happened so I’m brightening up that space and adding outdoor summer style with colorful accessories and bright, flowering outdoor container plants!

While I was at Walmart buying much of the Better Homes and Gardens outdoor line {I love the metal trays and buckets and could buy them in every color}, I also popped into the garden center and grabbed some flowering Better Homes and Gardens plants in bright hues.

Plants are such an easy way to add color and texture and they instantly warm up a space.  They’re perfect for softening a concrete patio or wood deck.

I topped my painted terracotta pot table with a red metal tray and added a bright red petunia {Better Homes and Gardens Potunia Plus Petunia in Red} for a colorful, easy-to-reach spot for drinks and snacks.  Since we often have friends over to swim in the summer, small, low tables next to chairs are a favorite.

The space feels so warm and almost tropical with the addition of flowers and greenery and the colorful metal accessories really pop against the color of the plants.

adding color with outdoor plants in pots

I bought cheap plastic pots and placed the plants right inside, turning some empty pots upside down and placing other pots on top to add some height and create a tiered effect.

And I can never resist adding a touch of whimsy so I cut the word enjoy from orange polka dot vinyl and attached it to the front of a drink dispenser.

Towels are a summertime staple by the pool and I added some new, bright striped swim towels this year.  I love hanging towels to dry on my rescued vintage ladder …

… but I also rolled some extra towels in a large metal tub …

… and gave the tub a cute label as well.

More plants in bright containers soften up the plain tile around the hot tub and add color and contrast.  I wish I had thought to add flowering plants around the pool years ago instead of just keeping them around the perimeter of the patio.  I added Better Homes and Gardens Double Date Trixi, Aloha Calibrachoa in Kona Tiki Soft Pink, Blue Dart Juncus, and Bidy Gonzales Top Bidens.  They all love bright sun and will flourish all summer long {provided someone remembers to water them … wink}.

I also topped a rectangular metal tray with a few flowering plants {Better Homes and Gardens Potunia Plus Petunia in Red and Bidy Gonzales Top Bidens} and placed them in the middle of our outdoor table for a colorful outdoor living centerpiece that will last all summer and require only a bit of watering.

It turned out so nice! I love the pop of red. If I won the gift card I would use it to spruce up my front porch and yard as we are getting ready to sell our home. It’s all about curb appeal and I could use some of your tips to make my front look nice!
