An Eclectic Plate Wall

What do you think of plate walls?  Total granny style or kind of fun?  I’m all for a good plate wall and I finally have my own eclectic plate wall in my dining room!  It’s a fun mess of interesting plates and I have a feeling it’ll be a great conversation starter at dinner parties.

an eclectic plate wall

I’ve been collecting interesting vintage plates for about a year.  Every time I would pop into the thrift store or an antique shop, I would look for plates that matched my dining room color scheme {green, brown, and yellow} and the style I was looking for {I love transferware and souvenir plates}.  I wanted a fun mix of plates that I could trail over the door leading from the dining room into the butler’s pantry.  And the main factor?  The plates had to be cheap.

I finally ended up with enough plates to create a substantial display and hung them this weekend.  {After doing a bit of online research, I hung the plates by hot gluing large bent paper clips onto the backs of the plates and hanging the paper clips on individual nails.}

This quirky little plate wall adds so much fun to my dining room …

… and brings back memories of some of my favorite places.

I’m so happy to have this long-term project completed although I’m sure I’ll add a few more plates here and there as I find them.

    I love plates on walls, too! Yours are lovely. Keep adding to the collection. Everything old in new again (as has been said). My friend just hung old plates on her kitchen wall. Hanging of plates might speak “Granny”, but they truly warm the heart when you see them! TFS

    A little bit Granny, a little bit eccletic, I think it works on that wall, and it’s not to many to make it overwhelming 🙂
