Stylish Storage for a Playroom

I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for my participation in the BHG Live Better Network.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #BHGLiveBetter

I’ve been busy transforming our gameroom from a toy-covered kid-centered room into a stylish spot that our whole family can enjoy.  I got rid of all the toys the kids have outgrown, rearranged the furniture, and added some stylish storage to corral the kids’ items and add some colorful decor.

stylish storage for a playgroom

This room has been decorated in orange, green, and blue for a while and I wanted to continue with those vibrant, kid-friendly colors.  I recently painted one wall with a geometric design and, when time allows {if it ever does}, I’ll paint the rest of the room in a pale almost-white blue.

To make this large room a little cozier and a lot more manageable, I divided the room into three distinct areas: a sitting area, a creative area, and a play area.

stylish storage in the gameroom

In the play area, I added some fun storage to house the toys and books.  I bought a four cube organizer and used it sideways to double as a window seat for the kids.  I love the idea of the kids having a sweet spot to sit and read.  To make it more comfortable and add a little texture, I added two furry toss pillows on top along with a DIY no-sew cushion.

cubicle storage with baskets

To make a no-sew cushion, all you need is a large piece of foam from the craft store cut to the size of the bench and a piece of fabric large enough to wrap around the foam.  Simply wrap the foam with the fabric the same way you would wrap a gift …

… and use lots of hot glue to hold it in place.  Super easy and super quick … which is the best kind of project, right?

To hide the toys from plain view, I bought two colorful fabric storage cubes that fit perfectly in the cube organizer.

stenciled baskets in cubicle storage

To give the storage cubes a little jazz,  I made vinyl stencils with my cutting machine, placed them on the front of the storage cubes, and painted around them with orange paint.  When I removed the stencils, the cubes had fun labels to tie in the cushion color.

The cubes are my favorite.  The kids just have to throw their toys inside and there’s no excuse for a messy play area.

The other two cubbies are perfect for holding books.

To pull the space together, I added a colorful fabric and pom pom garland over the windows.  I love the little touch of whimsy it adds.

Doesn’t it just look like the perfect little play space?

I also added some extra storage to the creative space.  Our chalkboard paint game dresser is now being used as a craft supply dresser and its drawers are full of pom poms, wood pieces, foam stickers, yarn, and all the things that kids love to craft with.  In addition to that storage, I need some containers for holding paper and coloring supplies and all those other little art goodies.  I bought three galvanized bins and placed them on my rolling storage cart {they look great with the metal handles on the cart} …

… then added washi tape numbers to each.

To make the washi tape numbers, I laid strips of washi tape on a cutting mat then cut out numbers using my cutting machine.  I love the way the washi tape looks on the metal surface.

This room was really needing some storage and organization and I just love the small but significant changes that cost less than $100!
