Fabric Covered Wire Words

I’ve seen fabric covered wire words at different craft sales and I thought it would be a great way to use up old colorful fabric scraps and create some fun and meaningful decor for my kids’ rooms.  You can use this technique to create a name or make a favorite inspirational word.

Making wire words is a super simple project that took me less than ten minutes per word and I used supplies that I already had on hand.  That’s the best kind of craft, right?

I used soldering wire but you can use any thick but pliable wire.  

I ripped fabric strips {about 1/4-1/2 inch wide and about three inches long} and wrapped them around the wire.  Where the strips change to other colors, I just wrapped the new color tightly over the old color and over itself {you could also add a drop of hot glue … I did that at the very end to hold everything in place}.

Once you have the piece of wire covered completely with fabric, twist the wire into the word or shape you want, bending it into cursive letters that all join together.  This is such a great way to use up that fabric stash or those small scraps of fabric!

The wire holds its shape well and this little word looks so cute in Kennedy’s room.  You can prop it on a shelf or add a small hanger to attach it to a nail on the wall.

 Wouldn’t these be cute as gift tags?  Fabric wrapped wire words might be making an appearance on the top of my Christmas presents this year.
