How to Make Camo Cupcakes

Luke and Lila’s big boot camp birthday party is set to go this weekend despite the fact that the weather is throwing a serious wrench in my plans.  My awesome outdoor location will likely get rained out and I’ll be doing a little boot camp overhaul in my gameroom.  I’m trying to just go with it.  In the meantime, I made the cupcakes and I thought I’d do a little pre-party sharing and show you how to make camo cupcakes.  They were so easy to make and they turned out really great, if I do say so myself {wink}!

how to make camo cupcakes for a party

I lined muffin pans with cupcake liners in the pink and green party colors for our co-ed army party.  Camo cupcake liners {affiliate link} would also be really cute.

To make the camo cupcakes, I mixed up two cake mixes.  One chocolate …

… and one white.  {You can obviously make the cake mix from scratch but I’m all about easy.}

I divided the white batter into three separate bowls and colored some of it pink and some of it green.  {I later added another shade of green that isn’t pictured by mixing the green you see below with a little bit of brown paste food coloring.}

I put a scoop of chocolate cake mix into each cupcake liner and then randomly {and gently, so as not to mix colors} added spoonfuls of other colors until I got the look I wanted.

I used the same technique to make the pink camo cupcakes.

I baked them according to the package instructions and they turned out exactly as I hoped.

The colors stayed intact without mixing and blending and the camo cupcakes look perfect!

I’ll frost them before I serve them at the party and the kiddos will have a fun surprise when they bite into them.  The twins both thought they were “awesome” and are getting pretty excited about their boot camp party.
