Easy Soccer Cake Idea

Tonight is Kennedy’s end-of-season soccer party and I think this marks about twelve seasons together for this team. That’s a lot of history and a lot of cakes!  At the end of every season we have a party and I always bring a soccer themed cake or cupcakes. After that many parties, I’ve made a lot of soccer cakes!  For this party, I made a really simple soccer cake and, while it’s far from perfect, it’s an easy idea that anyone can pull off … and I’m sharing a couple of tips so your cake can turn out better than mine did {wink}!

I’ve seen variations of this soccer cake before and it’s so simple to make and looks really cute.

To make this cake, you’ll need to bake a 9×13 cake and an additional cake baked in a round oven-safe bowl.  You can use cake mixes for both cakes in order to make it easy.  Be sure to grease the round bowl well so you’ll be able to pop the cake out.

Set the round cake on top of the sheet cake {trim the bottom of the round cake, if needed, so it’s flat} and cover both in white frosting.

Place about a cup of flaked coconut in a large plastic bag and shake it with green food coloring then sprinkle the coconut over the sheet cake and all around the soccer ball.

Place thin oreo crisps on the round cake then join them together with brown or black icing.  Want a tip for success?  I used decorator gel and it ran quite badly.  I would recommend using real frosting and piping it on.  If you need to, look at a real soccer ball to see where to place the crisps and how to draw the lines.

Whether you’re great at cake decorating or not, this soccer cake idea is hard to mess up and the kids will love it, perfect or not!

For another soccer party idea, be sure to check out this soccer pull apart cake made with frosted cupcakes!
