When I saw an adorable ice cream cone headband idea online {the original site no longer exists}, I added it to the birthday plans for Tate’s drips and drops party. It’s so cute and I thought it would be a great Tate topper for the special day and an adorable accessory for birthday photos!

I followed the basic directions from the original site but made a couple of changes.
The headband sits on a regular, cheap headband.
In the original post, they used crepe paper to create the rosettes, but I made the rosettes from fabric that matched the birthday dress. I sewed along one edge and then gathered it up to form the rosette, leaving the edges raw and shabby. The bottom rosette is slightly bigger than the top one. I stacked the rosettes on the headband and glued them into place.
I used hot glue to attach the pearl-like sprinkles around the base of the cone rather than white glue like the original. The white glue made the cone really soggy and was taking forever to dry. I also feel like hot glue is a little more permanent and is always my go-to for crafting.
The pom pom was made from a puff of purple tulle, gathered up and glued into the end of the cone. I used the same tulle that lined the table at the party.
I loved Tate’s ice cream cone birthday headpiece and she looked adorable wearing it.
She loved it, too.
So much so that she ate it the next day {groan}.
I think this tells me a lot about the personality of this little one and how this two-year-old year might go {wink}.
What fun birthday headpieces have you made?
For another fun headpiece for a birthday party, be sure to check out the colorful knit birthday hat Tate wore at her first birthday party!
That is so funny. Did you mean to let her eat it?
o my word! that is too cute! :)and my kids would’ve totally eaten it too!
She’s so cute and it’s her birthday, so eat away Tate! Addy was trying to eat the cone crayon holders.
