Can you believe that it’s only two months until Christmas?  Does that strike fear in the heart of anyone besides me?  I’m not at all ready but I will have a couple of new handmade ornaments on my tree this year.  These embroidery hoop Santa Christmas ornaments {two different versions} are really fun to make and not only will they look so cute on the Christmas tree but they’d make adorable gift toppers as well!

To make the fabric Santa ornament, you’ll need a small embroidery hoop {just a few inches in diameter}, any red fabric {patterned is fine}, one inch wide black grosgrain ribbon, and a buckle or grommet or something similar that looks like a belt buckle.

The supplies for the yarn wrapped Santa ornament are similar but instead of fabric, you’ll need bright red yarn.  Thicker yarn will provide better coverage but anything will work.

To make a fabric embroidery hoop Santa ornament, place the red fabric across the bottom hoop piece, lay the black ribbon across the middle, and place the top of the hoop on.  Pull the fabric and ribbon tight and tighten up the screw on the embroidery hoop.  Trim the fabric as close to the hoop as possible to give the back of the ornament a clean appearance.

Hot glue the buckle onto the middle of the belt.

To make a yarn wrapped embroidery hoop Santa ornament, keep both pieces of the embroidery hoop together and tighten the screw completely.  Hot glue the end of the yarn to the hoop and then begin wrapping tightly around the hoop until all of the wood is covered.  Hot glue the end in place.

Wrap a piece of ribbon all the way around the ornament, using a dab of hot glue to keep it in place on the sides and attaching the ends of the ribbon to each other, in the back, with hot glue.  Hot glue the buckle piece on top.

Add a piece of twine or ribbon to the top of the ornaments to hang them on the tree.
