I love a little touch of whimsy and quirkiness.  Do you?  I think it just adds a bit of fun to life and adds happiness to the every day moments.  This DIY bike vase fits well in the whimsical, quirky category and it makes me smile every time I glance down at at the unexpected vase full of flowers on the handlebars.  Want to make one too?

DIY bike vase

To make a bike vase, you’ll need a small glass or plastic jar {definitely go with a plastic jar if you think you might crash your bike … wink}, a 3/4 inch or 1 inch metal pipe clamp, and galvanized steel perforated duct strap.

Using wire cutters, cut a piece of duct strap long enough to wrap all the way around the glass jar and have overlapping holes on each end.

Remove the jar from the strap, place a short screw through both holes on the ends, put the screw through the pipe clamp, and begin screwing the bolt on the end but don’t tighten it completely.  Slide the jar back into the strap, pull the strap very tight and if there’s any give at all, use a bit of E6000 to hold it in place.   You don’t want the jar sliding out during a bike ride.

Tighten the bolt completely so the jar is held securely in place.

Clamp the pipe clamp tightly onto the front post of the bike or directly onto the handlebars.

If needed, tilt the vase so it’s sitting straight up and down …

LOVE this idea and very timely too because I’ve got my sites on a new Cruiser bike and I can see myself filling the little vase with flowers en route during my morning bike rides. Pinned 🙂

That’s adorable. I have a lovely old traditional looking bike and often think I really need to get a basket for it, but this might be a great alternative.
