How to Use Old Drawers as Under Bed Storage

Remember my post about repurposing old drawers?  One of my favorite ideas is to use old drawers as under bed storage.  I love the idea of adding casters to old unused drawers to give them new life.  It’s a great way to use that wasted space under the bed that’s usually reserved for dust bunnies and junk.

All three of my younger kids now have rolling drawers under their beds!  They can pull them out to get what they need and push them back in to store all their treasures out of sight.

I scored big time by finding five sturdy, solid wood drawers in the curbside trash.  These drawers were part of a built-in armoire that my cabinet-making neighbor made.  He was moving and clearing out his attic and I scooped these up the minute they hit the curb.

I bought casters during my last visit to ReStore {new ones this time, unlike the ones I used on my repurposed book caddy} and added them to each bottom corner of the drawer.

The screws show on the inside but they only stick through a few millimeters above the bolt so they’re not a problem.

Luke’s favorite number is seven so I used my cutting machine to make a stencil and painted the number in green {to match his blue and green cowboy room}.

Luke’s been using his drawer to store his treasures and loves having this little secret spot in his room!

Tate and Lila have rolling drawers as well.  {Did you notice their beds are pushed together now?  They’ve decided they like sleeping side by side and I figure that won’t last forever so I’ll let them do it while they want to.}

I painted their drawers pink, sanded down the edges, rubbed them with dark brown wax …

This was an easy upcycle and added some great storage to the kids’ room … and I love that it started with free drawers!

What have you used old drawers for?

    Good idea. I just use tupperware bins that slide back and forth on the hideous carpet. 🙂

    Oh I love this idea! I have a very small house with very little storage space and this would be perfect for me!
