Wild Card and a Win

My Wild Card project landed me in first place {hooray!} but it was such a close race.  Ashley and I were only six votes apart at the end.  Thank you so much for your votes.  I loved taking part in SYTYC and I felt like it really stretched my creativity.  I’d love to do something similar again.

I gave you a sneak peek of my final project but I thought I’d show you the whole thing here.

For the Wild Card week, I decided to make something that’s been on my project list for a while.  I love memories captured in shadowboxes and I decided to make a shadowbox that captures my early days with my husband.

To begin, I scraped out the {nasty} insides of a shadowbox from the Wisteria Outlet {my friend, Jenny, bought these for $5 a piece … how amazing is that?}.  I love the chunky, black distressed frame.  I was going for a vintage look with this shadowbox so I backed the box with wrinkled linen.

I photocopied parts of old love letters we wrote early in our relationship, tore the edges, wrinkled them up, and tea stained them to give them an old look.

A black and white photo of the two of us {long ago} sits in the middle of the letters.  I wrapped a bit of twine around the photo to add some texture.

In the bottom corner, I added “p&r” {our initials} in frosted vinyl.  It’s subtle but adds a fun touch.

I really love the outcome of this shadowbox and I love that this project captures such great memories for me.
