Whimsical Animal Place Card Holder

Yesterday I shared simple tips and tricks {and a video!} for creating a fabulous tablescape and today I’m sharing a few more details about the whimsical animal place card holder I created to mark each spot.  This silly little zebra adds such a fun touch to a fairly standard place setting.

To make a similar place card holder, you’ll need a small, cheap animal for each place.  I used zebras to match my zebra and turquoise tablescape but any animal will work.  If you want something a little more formal or funky, add a coat of spray paint to the animal before you get started.  Gold or silver spray paint will really ramp up the classy factor.

Once the animal is in the state you want, take a thick piece of wire about three or four inches long and coil one end to look like the photo below.

Poke the other end into the back of the plastic animal, trimming the length as needed.  If the animal you’re using is made from hard plastic, you may need to drill a small hole first.

Insert a slip of paper with the guest’s name into the wire coil …

… and you have a fun and whimsical way to mark each place setting {and a conversation starter for guests}.
