Upcycled Basketball Coffee Cuff

We love basketball in our house.  One of my daughters plays, one used to play, and both boys play {my son’s varsity team just sealed a spot in the playoffs!}.  The idea for this simple upcycled basketball coffee cuff was born out of my love for coffee and basketball and would make a great gift for your favorite basketball mom, coach, player, or dad.  And the best part?  It’s a five minute craft!

To make a basketball coffee cuff, you’ll need an old basketball {grab that flat one out of your garage or hit up the thrift store for a cheap secondhand ball} and a cardboard cuff from your local coffee shop.

Cut into the basketball then cut out a flat piece, and, using the open cardboard cuff as a template, trace the shape onto the basketball.  You may want to plan the placement so that the lines of the basketball are centered on the cuff.  {Before opening up the cardboard cuff, fold it in half to find the center.}

Cut the traced shape out with scissors, making sure the traced lines don’t show.

Size the cuff on a coffee cup then use a glue gun to secure the ends of the basketball cuff together and hold it in place until the glue is dry and the cuff is held together securely.

Slide the cuff onto a cup of hot coffee and you’ve got a fun and unique gift or the perfect coffee cuff for yourself.

It truly only takes minutes to make a repurposed basketball coffee cuff and the thickness of the ball means it really works, protecting hands from a hot cup of coffee!

    What a great idea! My little one is obsessed with basketball. We have more goals than are necessary in one room and more basketballs than I can count. He’s a bit young for coffee, but I think this would be great wrapped around a sippy to make it a bit more “hand grabby”. Thanks for the great tutorial. Found you on Best of the Weekend. Pinning!

    Love it! My husband is a basketball nut and my boys are following suit. This would be a fun hot cocoa cozy in our house for all those deflated balls.

    That’s a great way to upcycle! I know my boys seem to constantly end up with flat/punctured basketballs. What a fun idea for repurposing them!
