Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Clorox. The opinions and text are all mine.

It’s spring cleaning season and I actually welcome it every year! After months of the windows being closed and having the house closed up tight, I love to open the windows, let the fresh air blow in {it’s Texas so that fresh air is often hot but it’s still fresh air!}, and begin the task of freshening up our home. I’ve got some great spring cleaning tips and tricks to make it all a bit easier and quicker … so we can get outside and really enjoy spring!

spring cleaning tips and tricks

I grab cleaning products while I’m shopping at Walmart. I like being able to easily grab everything I need in one affordable, convenient stop. I also like to shop on Walmart.com for savings.

At home, I store everything in a cleaning caddy so I can quickly grab it and get started. Make sure the caddy has all the essentials: paper towels, microfiber cloths, scrubbing and toilet brushes, an old toothbrush, Clorox Clean-Up, Clorox Toilet Bowl Cleaner, and Clorox Splash-Less Bleach.

To tackle the spring cleaning, move room to room, and clean top to bottom.

Start with the ceiling fans and light fixtures in each room. Clean fan blades easily by placing a damp pillowcase over each blade and gently pull it off the blades, wiping the dust away. The dirt and dust will stay inside the pillowcase and you can simply toss it in the laundry after, inside out, and the dust and grime will all be washed away. It’s so much better than having all that dust fall to the floor!

Light fixtures are easy too. Use a blowdryer on the cool setting to blow the dust off the fixture and glass globes quickly. If the glass globes are grimy or greasy, unscrew them from the fixture and run them through the dishwasher. It’s the easiest way to quickly get rid of that grime!

… and then continue dusting all the other surfaces like shelves, mantels, and decorative items. Vacuum, sweep, or mop last to collect all the dust that has fallen onto the carpet or floor.

While you’re cleaning the rooms, toss the towels, shower curtain, blankets, pillows, and other cloth items into the washing machine and let them wash while you work on the rest of the room. Clorox Splash-Less Bleach is a great way to get white sheets and towels whiter. Add it to the laundry, following directions on the package. Clorox Splash-Less Bleach removes 70% more stains than detergent alone and the no-splash formula delivers a more controlled pour so you have to deal with less splashes and spills!

Clean bathrooms with the same top to bottom technique but before you start, hit the toilet with Clorox Toilet Bowl Cleaner. It includes Clorox bleach cleaning power, kills 99.9% of germs, and removes tough stains.

Squirt the cleaner all around the top of the toilet bowl and then let it sit for a few minutes while you clean the fixtures and throw the towels in the wash. Once the cleaner has had the chance to run down the sides and coat the bowl, start cleaning, use a toilet brush to scrub any stains. Flush it all away and don’t forget to clean the outside of the toilet and the seat too!

Want to hear one of my favorite tricks? No one wants to toss a wet toilet brush back into the caddy and I can’t stand toilet brush holders. Instead, I place the brush into a disposable cup and set it in my caddy. The water and germs drain into the cup and it can be replaced any time with a new clean cup. So much more sanitary, right?

While Clorox Splash-Less Bleach is great for laundry, it’s also a great way to clean grout lines in the shower. Mix it according to the instructions on the bottle and then use an old toothbrush to clean the grout lines and the corners of the shower and bathtub. Rinse well.

Finish cleaning the rest of the surfaces with Clorox Clean-Up. It’s perfect for countertops, faucets, and even dirty handprints on the wall {or am I the only one who finds those regularly?}. Simply spray and wipe clean and you’ll kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria in your home.

With just a few simple spring cleaning tips and tricks, your house will be spotless … just in time for those messy kids to be home for summer break {wink}!
