Oliver + S :: A Messy Kid Bib

Want to see what I made with that self-laminated cotton?
A cute {and wipeable} bib for little Tate.

I have to admit that I’m terrible about putting bibs on Tate.  And I wasn’t great about putting them on the others either {except for Kennedy.  She was so messy that we had a full body shield on her at mealtime.}  I think I dislike them because I’ve never found the perfect bib.  The hard plastic ones with the pocket get shoved up by the high chair tray, and the soft bibs get soaked right through or food falls off into the baby’s lap.

I’m so impressed with this Oliver + S pattern from Little Things to Sew.  The iron-on vinyl coating makes the bib easy to wipe down and the pocket is shaped so that it sticks out from the bib to catch falling food.  The bib also curves around the neck and has a Velcro closure on the side, making it more comfortable to wear.

I love, love, love this fabric.  It’s been in my stash pile for a while and I think I even used it for a raggy edged bib when Tate was a baby.  I love the vintage look, the old stove, the little girls busy in the kitchen.

I backed the bib with a simple pink floral and used yellow bias tape on the edges.

Tate put the bib to the applesauce test and it passed with flying colors.  The applesauce wiped right off, some fell into the pocket, and not one bit ended up on her clothes.  Success for the self-feeder!

Another fun project from Little Things to Sew.

    First, I’m terribly impressed you have the time to create such a wonderful bib with your house full of kiddos. Second, that is one of the most adorable bibs I’ve ever seen. Third, love the tips on making vinyl fabric. Thanks so much for sharing such a great idea!
