Have you ever wished you could hire a designer to consult with you on decorating your home? I’ve had that thought numerous times in the last few months and I found the coolest solution: an online design session with , a personalized home design solution that uses 3D visualization technology that lets you see a design and try on furniture before you buy! You can not only design a space in your home but you can also shop for your home, all in one place, with products from hundreds of partners! I’m so excited to share my designs with you … and I have a coupon code {DUKES20} so you can try Modsy too!
I’ve wished for the help of a designer or a different set of eyes in my house because I have a family room that’s a bit odd: it has a slanted fireplace that hadn’t been a focal point, a TV that sits on a wall of shelves across the room, and a needed walkway right through the center of the room. While I didn’t hate the way I had the room set up, I also didn’t love it. I felt like the room needed a few small tweaks but I couldn’t figure out what they were.
When I heard about , I knew it was exactly what I needed. Modsy could help me narrow down my style, look at my actual space, and give me two different designs for my room. And I could do it all online when the timing worked for me then receive my redesign through email. Sounds amazing, right? Modsy takes the guesswork out of buying furniture and accessories for a room.
Modsy couldn’t be easier to use! They ask a few questions, you upload a few photos, they let you know when your designs are ready, and you have the opportunity to shop – or not – for the new items directly through Modsy!
You can choose any room to redesign …
… and then it’s simply a matter of following the steps so the designers at Modsy can get an accurate picture of your style.
I used the Modsy Premium package but there are a few different options to choose from, depending how much you’ve budgeted for a redesign. You also have the option of selecting the amount of money you’re planning to spend on the new design … so Modsy won’t come back with an over-the-top expensive makeover if you have a limited budget that you want to spend.
I uploaded photos of my room taken with my phone. Modsy doesn’t require anything fancy and doesn’t care whether you clean the room or have clutter everywhere but they do require at least eight photos of the space from every angle with lots of light.
Some of my photos felt redundant since this room is pretty open and most angles show the same thing but I still uploaded piles of photos.
I also uploaded a super simple sketch of my room. The sketch is optional but because of the odd shape of the room and the fact that it’s used as a walkway in our home, I wanted to make sure Modsy had a very accurate picture of the space.
After I went through all the steps online, Modsy summarized my style. I felt like they nailed it!
I’ve always said my style is extremely eclectic. I love modern, I love rustic, I adore vintage, I’m all about old-school, and I definitely prefer an informal style that feels welcoming and inviting.
One of my biggest fears in using an online service was that they wouldn’t truly grasp my style but the process they have is so thorough that it really does capture an accurate image.
After about a week, I received an email from Modsy with two designs for my room! I was so excited to see what Modsy recommended for my room! And I loved both designs!
My design goals were to keep the space kid-friendly, keep the budget at $2500 or less, and keep the style dramatic and bold {I love color!} and it was accomplished in both designs.
The first design was intentionally similar to my current layout in order to preserve the walkway and make TV viewing easy …
… but they moved one chair to a different spot, allowing the fireplace to be more of a focal point in the room as well. And I love that small change! For some reason, I didn’t think to turn that chair around but it really makes the space feel cozier and I love that the fireplace isn’t blocked.
The design also gave me great ideas for accessorizing the room with smaller items including pillows, lamps, and coffee table decor.
When I saw the design including the gorgeous coffee table, I was a bit skeptical that they stuck to my budget but when I looked at items they recommended, they totally did! That coffee table is only $399 through their site!
In the second design, Modsy gave me a very different layout, making the fireplace the focal point, pulling the couch away from the wall, but still making the TV visible.
It was a design that I had never considered and actually loved. It was such a different look for the room.
One of the things I loved about both designs was the layering of rugs. I’ve actually been considering doing that to spice up my grey rug and add a bit of color and having that confirmed by the design team made me a bit more likely to go for it.
I love that in addition to sharing new designs, Modsy also shares links to the actual items you can buy to create the space. Whether you’ve budgeted for a room makeover and want to buy everything at once, or whether you want to slowly add new pieces and accessories over time, you can already see what the finished room will look like.
After moving my furniture all over, in the end I decided to go with the first design. I moved the green chair, changed the layout of the throw pillows, moved the lamp to the other side of the couch, and plan to add some new accessories to that space over the next few months.
I loved my experience with Modsy and will definitely use them again to help me design a room. Whether you’re stuck with a hard space or a weird layout, or whether you just want a new set of eyes on your space, be sure to try ! Use coupon code DUKES20 to save!
