Mediterranean Hummus Tray

Hummus is a big favorite at our house and I think I’d dip almost anything into it.  It makes a great snack but it also makes a super easy appetizer when it’s served with a few key ingredients.  This mediterranean hummus tray can be whipped up in no time so there’s no need to panic when those friends show up for a last minute visit or happy hour … just grab a few items from the fridge, scatter them on a cutting board, and you’ve got an elegant starter in just minutes!

To create a mediterranean hummus tray, let the hummus act as the star of the show and place it center stage.  You can serve your favorite store bought or homemade hummus or a few different varieties.

I like to drizzle the hummus with olive oil and sometimes I’ll sprinkle it with a tiny bit of paprika or salt and pepper.  You could even add a bit of chopped roasted garlic, some pine nuts, or a sprinkle of chopped cilantro to jazz it up!

If you’re serving more than one flavor of hummus, place them in small serving dishes and spread them out along the cutting board.

Then start adding your favorite mediterranean ingredients.  I like to slice and quarter naan bread, cut grape tomatoes in half, slice pitted kalamata olives, and add a pile of crumbled feta cheese.

Diced cucumber is also delicious.

I have other favorites that I like to include as well, depending what I have in the fridge and pantry and how much time I have to prep: plain wafer crackers, crisp breadsticks, roasted garlic cloves, pine nuts or raw almonds, and diced red onion.

Guests can help themselves, topping the naan bread with the hummus and other ingredients.

This is a perfect addition to happy hour or the perfect starter to a meal … and we even love to have this as the actual meal sometimes.  Just add some slices of grilled chicken and you’ve got a fun and different idea for dinner!
