How To Make A Doily Bowl

Do you get completely inspired by Anthropologie?  I love the catalog, I love the window displays, and I love all the amazing products in the store.  When I saw a doily bowl in an Anthro catalog, I knew it would be simple to make and would be a great way to use some of the heirloom doilies that were passed down to me from my aunt.  The best thing about this doily bowl?  It can be made in just a few minutes.

I’m sharing this {less than} 15 minute craft {minus drying time} as part of Craft Lightning Week.  Pop over to The Country Chic Cottage or 30 Minute Crafts to see all the 15 minute crafts shared this week!

To make a doily bowl, you’ll need: a large bowl, plastic wrap, a doily, and white glue.  I used a vintage doily but you can use a new or a vintage doily … you’ll find them at your local craft or thrift stores.  The bowl needs to be as large as your doily {the bowl shown below was actually too small and I ended up using a larger one}.

Mix the white glue with equal parts water and stir it well.  I used about 1 cup of glue and 1 cup of water.

Turn the bowl upside down and cover it completely with plastic wrap.  This will ensure that the doily bowl pulls off easily at the end.

Dip the doily into the glue mixture, making sure every bit of it is wet, squeeze it out, then lay the doily centered over the bowl.  When the doily is dry, check the rigidity.  If it doesn’t seem stiff enough, pour more of the water/glue mixture over the doily and spread it with your hands.  Let it dry completely.

When the doily is dry, carefully peel it away from the bowl and plastic wrap.  Your doily bowl is finished!  It makes a fun and unique place to store yarn or other items …

… or you could place a glass bowl inside it for a pretty serving dish at your next tea or luncheon.  Picture this filled with fruity chicken salad or a strawberry spinach salad … wouldn’t that be pretty?
