Hot Cranberry Cider

We’ve had an unseasonably warm winter but that all ended yesterday when rain, tornadoes, high winds, and cold temperatures came in with a bang.  We’re doubling up on socks, digging out sweaters, sitting by the fire, and drinking hot cranberry cider by the pot full … and in case you’re experiencing a winter blast, I thought I’d share this simple recipe!

hot cranberry cider

To make this tart cranberry cider, you’ll need one 64-ounce bottle of cranberry juice cocktail, five cinnamon sticks, a tablespoon of whole cloves, and one orange.

ingredients for hot cranberry cider

Slice the orange then pour the cranberry juice into a pot and add the orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves.  Bring to a boil then turn the heat down and simmer for about twenty minutes to allow the flavors to blend.

Ladle the cider into mugs and strain out any stray cloves.  If the cider is more tart than you like, add a bit of brown sugar to taste.

This variation on traditional cider will warm up your winter days and help you enjoy the latest snowfall!

Sounds delicious! I wonder if it’d work in a crock pot…

Definitely! You may want to remove the oranges after an hour or so but otherwise it would be great!

This looks great, Randi. It’s only 20 degrees here today, so this is a good week to give it a try!
