Long ago, I blogged about the {Martha Stewart} handprint keepsakes I had started with Luke and Lila.

I started tracing their little hands at one month of age and continued to trace them till now: age five.  Initially, I traced their hands every few months and then only once a year as they got older and their hand growth slowed a bit.  I had always planned on stopping at age five so this artwork is now complete.

Handprints

These pieces of art are so precious to me.  I walk by them many times a day and I love seeing the twins’ growth documented and preserved.  The handmade paper and floating frames have a timeless quality to them and, five years later, I’m still happy with the material choices I made.

Handprints

These sweet little hands have grown so much and I’m so glad I saved these tracings.

I wish I had thought of this when my older kids were little. Would it be wrong to only do this with my youngest (and probably last)? Too bad I can’t make my older kids little again.

With a 7 year old and 3 year old, I am so sad to have missed out on this opportunity. You are SO fortunate- make lots of copies! You will be featured on Sugar and Dots next week for being spot #1, but no lie, this is feature-worthy anyway. 🙂

    Precious!

We live far from family. I always “sign” my son’s name with his handprint so everyone can see how he’s growing. I’ve also traced his outline on paper and sent it so grandparents could see how tall he is.

What an incredibly beautiful idea. Sheesh…I wish I could turn back time. My girls are 6 and almost 10. My brother and his wife have a 3-year old and a new baby, so I’m sending a link their way.

What a great idea! I don’t even know if I have hand or foot prints. I haven’t opened the baby books in years. I did start tracing their hands at Christmas on the tree skirt last year. I would love to include this on my children’s decor blog. It’s such a creative keepsake! If you’d like to be featured please email me at PlayfulDecor (at) gmail (dot) com. Have a great week!

This post really gives you perspective in life. It reminds me of a talk my Thomas S. Monson, “If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly.” I am so grateful you posted.

Great idea! They look 3-D. I’ll bet it is a treat every time you walk by those. 🙂

I recently posted about taking a black and white photo of my kids hands (ages 10 and 12)while they were writing their names. My sons teacher did this in his class and sent it home…that started the idea.
