The mom of one of my favorite people in the whole world is sick. In the midst of her battle, she came up with a neat idea to help her grandsons understand heaven and God’s victory over sickness and death and asked me to help.
Grandma and the boys plan to dress up military style and memorize Bible verses that pertain to this time. I love the idea of them memorizing and praying Scripture, and doing battle together. “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword …” Hebrews 4:12 {NLT}.
We bought military hats and I sewed military sashes for each of them in a style similar to Luke’s explorer sash.
These military sashes have less rough edges than the original explorer sash but I did have to leave a few edges shabby. I even used the fabric’s selvedge for the top of the mesh pockets. I love rough edges. Maybe there’s a secret life metaphor in there.
Elastic runs up the middle of each sash and holds the ammunition: rolled up pieces of paper containing Bible verses.
Like the explorer sash, I included a few tabs that can be used for hooking carabiners and tools.
I just loved this idea and I was so happy to be able to help. I’m praying that God does mighty things in the hearts and minds of these boys as they go through this journey with their Grandma.

I’ve started truncating my posts … please pop over to my blog to read the rest!
This is so good I just don’t know what to say. I’ll be praying for them.
What a wonderful idea, Randi…this family is in my prayers…
