I found a fabulous old distressed coffee pot on ebay and turned it into a very unique DIY upcycled coffee pot lamp!  The process to turn something into a lamp is surprisingly easy and you can have a one-of-a-kind lamp, made from almost anything, with just a few simple and inexpensive steps.

To make an upcycled lamp, hit up the thrift stores or ebay {or even use something new} for an old coffee pot or tea pot.  Look for something with good lines and be sure it’s large enough to hold the lamp kit.

You can find a lamp kit online or in the lighting department at most big box hardware stores.  There are different varieties available, depending how you want the shade to sit.

Drill a hole in the middle of the lid of the coffee pot, large enough to accommodate the shaft of the lamp kit.  You may want to start with a small hole and then drill a larger hole so you don’t bend or tear the metal of the pot.

how to use a lamp kit

Insert the lamp kit through the pot lid and assemble the bottom of the kit on the inside of the lid.

This lamp kit was gold in color so I painted it with silver craft paint so it would blend in better with the lamp.

Because of the design of the lamp kit, the cord hangs out the top.  I hide it behind the lamp but if you want to make it less obvious you can drill another hole in the pot lid, another one out the bottom of the pot, and feed the cord through that {but it will have to be large enough to fit the plug through or else you’ll have to cut the cord then rewire it back together}.  Where the cord will pull or rub against those rough metal edges, I would recommend something to protect the cord from getting cut or worn.  You can wrap the cord in electrical tape or even place a smooth layer of clear hot glue over the rough edges.

It just takes a few minutes to transform an old coffee pot into a really neat looking lamp!
