A Dinosaur Party {Old Style} :: Birthday Archives

We’ve been having handmade, at-home parties since before it was cool.  I absolutely love that home parties have become so popular and trendy but I also love some of the old time simplicity.  I thought I’d share a couple of our old parties this week as a reminder that parties can be simple, affordable, and memorable.

When Elijah was little he loved dinosaurs so for his fourth birthday we had a Prehistoric Party.  I used lots of ideas from FamilyFun … they’re such a great resource for easy-to-pull-off ideas.

The invitations were simple construction paper dinosaur footprints mailed in large 5×7 envelopes.

Silly dinosaur balloons added to the decor {so easy to make with balloons and some paint} …

… and the kids walked on large dinosaur footprints throughout the house.

The activities included a volcano {the kids molded a volcano from modelling clay and then we mixed baking soda and vinegar together to look like lava flowing … a huge hit with younger kids} …

… and a dinosaur dig {a box filled with sand and small dinosaurs … the kids dug for their treasures}.

And don’t you love young kids?  If you give them a goofy dinosaur hat, they’ll wear it.

I love looking back at our older parties and remembering fun times.  Have you had a favorite at-home party?

    Family Fun has some really great ideas. My favorite party was a Star Wars party for Victor. We used swimming noodles as life savers (an idea I found somewhere on the internet) The kids loved them and took theirs home as part of the loot bag.

    Elijah looks so sweet. They grow up too fast.
