A Beaded Bulb Cover

During my last trip to Canton, I saw beautiful a beaded bulb cover in a shop.  I absolutely loved the simplicity of them and decided I’d try to make my own.

I think mine needs to be tweaked a bit but I do love the look of it.  Simple glass beads and wire.

I didn’t photograph an entire tutorial for this but let me summarize how I made it.  I twisted wire to create a neat style covering for the bulb.  The strands lay vertically down the bulb and are held in place by a horizontal wire at the top {sitting on the bulb} and a horizontal wire halfway down.  Before adding and twisting on any new wire, I filled in all the bare wire with clear glass beads.  I like the large size but if they’re too large, they don’t lay well against the bulb so keep that in mind when you’re planning your bulb cover.

I think the bare bulb covered in beads is a fun look.  And I love this simple lamp I found at a local thrift store.  I painted it, distressed it a bit, and wiped it with some stain.

It’s a fun addition for the top of the organ in our gameroom …

and adds a lot of bright light when it’s turned on.

I love that it just looks completely different from an ordinary lamp and is pretty whether the light is on or off.

What do you think? Bulb cover or lamp shade?

That is a cute idea. Some lamp shades are so big they take away from the space rather than adding to it.

I absolutely love it!!! Will the beads not melt? I would love to do this on the naked bulb in my laundry room/closet!
