Sometimes the simplest projects turn out to be favorites and this magnetic locker door memo board is one of those projects. It involved just a few minutes of work to get it hung and make the rustic wood slice magnets {I’ll share that tutorial tomorrow} but it looks so fun and adds a unique, old school touch to Luke’s room.
I’ve been planning a rustic industrial makeover in Luke’s room for some time and it still hasn’t happened but I decided to go ahead and hang this memo board anyway. It’ll look better against grey walls but it’s fun to have it up while we wait for the calendar to clear so painting can finally occur.
I found this old locker door on a recent junking trip in Waco and knew it would make such a great memo board. I also knew that I wouldn’t paint it or do anything to alter the distressed appearance. I love the history and the stories told by those scratches and layers of peeling paint.
I simply hung the locker door on the wall {with anchored screws since it’s actually quite heavy} and embraced it in all its rusty, broken hinged glory.
I think the chipped, scratched paint …
… and the carved graffiti add to the authenticity of this sweet vintage find.
And the rustic wood burned wood slice magnets are the perfect contrast against the industrial style of the door.
My little guy loves his new memo board and I have to agree. Thrifted vintage junk upcycled and repurposed into something useful and fun is always my favorite.
