A DIY Painted Rug

This week my front entryway is getting a bit of a makeover.  There won’t be any huge changes, just some re-organization and a few new items.  I’ll share the whole thing tomorrow.  In the meantime, I thought I’d give a sneak peek at one of the projects I made: a DIY painted rug.

DIY painted striped rug

I started with a plain basketweave rug from the Better Homes and Gardens line at Walmart.  I liked the thickness and the solid weave.  I need something that can stand up to seven people walking across that mat all day long!

I used painters tape to tape off stripes, using an additional piece to measure the width in between so that I’d get even stripes and leaving a wider stripe in the middle.

Using craft paint, I painted in between the tape using two different colors …

… then let it dry and peeled up the tape.  So easy!  Now we just have to walk on it to get that perma-fold out of the center {smile} and all will be well!  I love the bit of color that it’s adding to an otherwise neutral area of our home.

I may have to make one for the back door next!
