With another basketball season wrapping up for my two boys and March Madness viewing right around the corner, I’ve been pondering some fun and easy basketball ideas to celebrate. If you’re thinking about the same things, let me show you how to make basketball gumballs that can be used as cupcake toppers or packaged up as party favors for the team party.
How to Make Basketball Gumballs at Home
I bought a pile of large orange gumballs at a local party store {they come individually wrapped and you can choose only the colors you want which makes it easy}.
The smaller candies are sixlets which would also be adorable {albeit tiny} basketballs if you have the patience. I decided to use them only to nest the gumballs.
Using a black edible marker {something I think everyone should have for food crafts}, freehand the basketball lines onto the gumball. Simple, right? They don’t have to be perfect to be cute. Kids definitely don’t care about perfection.
Here’s a quick tip to make the process easier: make the gumballs assembly line style, drawing one line on each gumball and working down the line, then returning to the first one to add the next line. That way the first line has a minute to dry and won’t smear or smudge when you’re adding the next line.
If the lines aren’t dark enough, go back over them a second time once the first lines have dried.
This is the perfect mindless activity to do while you sit in front of a favorite TV show. I’m going to make a pile of these basketball gumballs to use as cupcake toppers at our end-of-season basketball party.
