A Pool Party

Summer isn’t complete without a pool party … or a handful of pool parties!  It’s so easy to grab some simple snacks and drinks and turn an afternoon of swimming into something a bit more fun and festive without days of planning and a large budget.  {Scroll to the end of this post for links to past pool parties.}
When my older kids have pool parties, I generally skip a theme and use colors to coordinate.  This week, Kennedy had friends over to swim and we decorated with red, yellow, and orange … bright, sunshine-y, summer colors!

The key to summer entertaining, for me, is to truly keep it simple and skip elaborate details.  Kennedy gave me a list of her favorite {storebought} snacks and we used items from around the house as serving dishes and decor.

The colors for the party centered around these pretty plates and napkins {nestled in my newest Coke crate}.

The other Coke crate was filled with bright snack bags found at Party City.

I left a little reminder for the girls …

… alongside their snacks.  Bright plastic buckets with cute plastic scoops {also found at Party City} add some fun without going over the top.

Paper straws in the right colors were nowhere to be found {and I didn’t have time to order online} so we went with the traditional plastic and placed them next to my big red wheeling cooler {one of my favorite things for summer fun}.

The bright colors and patterns looked great together and turned an afternoon of swimming into something a little more special.

The laughter from these girls was proof that the first pool party of the summer was lots of fun!
