An Edible Nativity

Along with the masses on Pinterest, we loved this adorable nativity when we saw it.  It immediately went on the must-do list for December.  Last weekend, the kids lined up at the kitchen island, each one with a specific job, and made this sweet {excuse the pun} little edible nativity.

I put the stable and manger together {using melted sugar which is much quicker than royal icing and would look better if I hadn’t burned it prior to using}.  Eli made the people … Mary, Joseph, and the little Baby Jesus.  He took a bit of poetic license with the creation and transformed his snack {Chex Mix} into some props.  Note the baby’s halo.  Be warned: you’ll see the snack come into play again on the angel.

Eli also made the little shepherd {we attached his candy cane crook with more burned melted sugar} …

… and the Chex Mix-embellished angel.  The yellow hay is courtesy of Luke and his mad coconut-shaking skills.

Kennedy and Lila made the whimsical sheep.  Aren’t they so cute?

Tate wasn’t all that helpful during the creative process but she did manage to snack on the building supplies.

Our little scene sits in the dining room and Luke hopes it won’t collect much dust so he can eat it up after Christmas.

Gross.

I think the black is far more authentic. It looks like pitch. I thought it was intentional. Happy mistake in these eyes.

I love it! Luke is so adorable.

We celebrate St. Nicholas. One year St. Nich came to our church, only seeing him in pictures, Victor raised his hand and asked where did he keep his halo?
