Pizza Garden in a Container

This pizza garden has been created as part of a sponsored post for Harvest, makers of organic soil.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love spring!  While I don’t have a perfectly green thumb, I do love planting colorful flowers and lots of herbs to cook with.  This spring, I planted a pizza garden in a container and I’m looking forward to using the herbs and vegetables to make homemade pizza and sauce all summer long.  Not much is better than grilled pizza with homemade pizza sauce and fresh from the garden toppings!

To make this pizza garden, I went to Lowe’s and bought a large pot with a wide opening {I chose a pot with a very rustic look because it seemed to fit well with the pizza theme}, thin wood trim to create the pizza “slices”, herbs and vegetables {cherry tomatoes, red and green bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, parsley, oregano, and basil}, and Harvest’s Organic Potting Mix.

Harvest’s organic soils are the perfect choice for summer gardening and especially for gardens that contain edibles.  When you use Harvest soils, you plant with “clean” dirt meaning your garden will grow without added chemicals, pesticides, and preservatives.

You grow healthily and help reduce landfill waste and improve our planet!

Harvest keeps nearly 2,000,000 tons of waste from ending up in landfills by processing food and yard waste in North America.  By recycling those scraps, Harvest turns waste into organic gardening products that feed the earth which then feeds people, creating a more sustainable planet.  It’s better for plants, pets, people, and the planet!

Place Harvest’s Organic Potting Mix in the container {I used two bags to fill my large pot} then use pieces of thin wood trim across the top to create eight even sections, like pizza slices.  Simply cut them to size with a saw.

Plan where you’ll place the different plants by setting them in the sections and rearranging until you’re happy with the layout.  I like to place the taller plants, like tomatoes, in the back of the pot and the shorter plants in the front.  You may need to use wooden stakes to hold up the tomato plants as they grow taller.

Before you plant the pizza ingredients in the soil, create a fun sign using a dollar store cutting board.  I used my cutting machine to cut a little Italian message {it is a pizza garden, after all} from outdoor vinyl and attached it to the cutting board.  Be sure to place the text near the top of the cutting board so you have room to push the board into the soil.

Plant the vegetables and herbs in the soil and place the sign in the soil as well, being careful not to break the plant roots.

… then sit back and watch your garden grow!  In no time at all, you’ll be enjoying pizza topped with the freshest ingredients from your own back yard!

What a fantastic idea. I will be planting these when I back from Puerto Rico.
