Grilled Samoa Bananas

Grilling in the summer months is my favorite but we often don’t think about grilling up a dessert.  These grilled samoa bananas are a fun way to top things off on hamburger night … and there’s a good chance you have the ingredients sitting in your pantry or cupboard!  Let me show you how quick and easy they are to make.

To make grilled samoa bananas, you’ll need one banana for each person, caramel pieces, chocolate chips, and shredded coconut.

Leaving the banana in the peel, slice down the middle of the banana, stopping before you slice through either end.  Don’t slice right through the bottom of the banana either.

… and shredded coconut.  Once you’ve sliced the bananas, the kids will love filling their own fruit with the toppings and getting them ready for the grill.

Wrap each banana individually in foil and place it on a medium-heat grill for about ten minutes or until the caramel and chocolate chips are melted.  You can also make these over a campfire, setting them on top of a grate or nestling them into the embers of the fire once it dies down a bit.

When the bananas are done, carefully open the foil to avoid getting burned and serve with a spoon, eating them right out of the banana peel.  If your sweet tooth is really acting up, top the bananas off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!  It’ll melt on the warm banana and add a creamy touch!

These sweet treats will quickly become a summer favorite … and they’re a great way to use up ripening bananas!
